Amaryllis Farm began in 1989. The Equine Rescue became a 501c3
in 2005 as an ongoing tribute to a much missed and beloved horse, Rascal. Love can accomplish great things and love does not die.
Horse rescues are necessary because kind, gentle horses end up in trouble all the time. Race horses retire very young off the track; lesson and camp horses are often discarded at season's end; personal horses lose their homes because owners divorce, have financial problems or get ill. There will always be people wanting nothing more than whatever they can get out of a horse. These people will discard horses quickly once they become inconvenient. The slaughter market exists because of this. Horses often pass through many homes. It is very sad and they do not understand why this happens to them.
Our mission is to save slaughter bound horses and ponies that still have quality of life, rehabilitate them as necessary and give them a second chance at life and being loved.
From the horse's perspective...it is RELIEF.
It really comes down to that one feeling. Relief.
For the first time in a long time, someone cares. For the first time in a long time, they are no longer alone.
